Sarah Godlewski: Wisconsin women will not go back to 1849
I remember exactly where I was when Roe v. Wade was overturned. I was traveling to Appleton for a campaign event, and I was on the phone with my Mom.
We were horrified by the news, and my Mom said, “Sarah, we cannot go backward, and know this is why you are running for office!”
Sarah Godlewski’s crusade to elect women and preserve the veto
On a brilliant Saturday morning in October, a buzzing crowd was crammed into the kitchen of Wisconsin State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski’s lakefront home in Madison, sipping coffee and waiting to hear from six pro-choice women candidates running in some of Wisconsin’s most competitive legislative districts.
After dropping out of the race to replace Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson and endorsing her fellow Democratic candidate Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, Godlewski converted her campaign into a PAC called Women Win Wisconsin which aims to defeat Johnson and promote candidates who support abortion rights. One arm of the PAC, focused on legislative races, is called Women Save the Veto.
Abortion special session turns into a political rally
The overturning of Roe v. Wade has energized Democratic voters, especially women. “I’ve been traveling the state from Appleton to Stevens Point to Marinette, and women are angry that they’re losing rights. And now, they won’t even have a say through a referendum,” said Wisconsin State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski, who was standing behind Governor Tony Evers at the rally. Democrats nationwide have good reason to see the issue as a winner in the next election, with national polls showing overwhelming support for abortion rights. The stakes are particularly high in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Democrats challenge Republicans for refusing to support abortion, voter referendum
“An overwhelming majority of Wisconsinites did not want Roe v. Wade overturned. When we lost our reproductive rights back in June, the Republican legislature could have taken action to repeal Wisconsin’s cruel abortion ban from 1849 — an antiquated law that bans abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest. A law that puts doctors in jail. But the Republican legislature chose to do nothing,” Sarah Godlewski said.
New abortion rights PAC endorses Wisconsin Democrats to prevent GOP supermajority
A former U.S. Senate candidate is hoping to use her resources to support pro-abortion-rights candidates in local races across Wisconsin. "We got to do everything we can to make sure we are advocating for reproductive freedom not just at the federal level but the state level," Sarah Godlewski said.
‘Women Against Ron’: Sarah Godlewski Launches Group to Unseat Anti-Abortion Rights Sen. Ron Johnson
“We’ve got to make sure that Roe v. Wade is the law of the land and pass Tammy Baldwin’s Women Health Protection Act. To do that we have to make sure Mandela Barnes is in the Senate—and really elevate how awful Ron Johnson’s record is on this stuff,” Godlewski said.
Sarah Godlewski launches abortion rights PAC as November elections loom
Sarah Godlewski isn’t finished trying to defeat Republican Sen. Ron Johnson. The State Treasurer is converting her U.S. Senate campaign committee into a hybrid political action committee, known as Women Win Wisconsin, and will spend against Johnson, along with fundraising and spending on behalf of six pro-choice Democratic women running for state legislative seats.

Democratic State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski announced the creation of a PAC dedicated to mobilizing voters who support abortion rights. “We are building on the power of pro-choice women to restore reproductive freedom,” Godlewski said.
